# ipconfig.is > Free IP address and network intelligence for people and scripts. See your public IP (IPv4/IPv6) with geolocation, ISP/ASN, network block, reverse DNS (PTR), VPN / proxy / Tor detection, threat reputation and registry (RDAP) data - or look up any public IP. Plus a sysadmin toolbox: DNS lookups and propagation, TLS certificate inspection, email authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC/MTA-STS), HTTP traces, open-port checks, domain WHOIS, a domain security audit and a subnet calculator. Key-free JSON API with CORS. ## API (no key, no sign-up) - `curl ipconfig.is` - your public IP as plain text (`curl -4` / `curl -6` for each address family); `curl v4.ipconfig.is` always answers over IPv4, for tools without `-4` - `curl ipconfig.is/json` - full geolocation for your IP as JSON - `curl ipconfig.is/json/8.8.8.8` - geolocation for any public IP (also `?ip=`) - `curl ipconfig.is/{field}` - any single field as plain text: `country`, `country-code`, `city`, `region`, `asn`, `org`, `network`, `ptr`, `timezone`, `vpn`, `tor`, … (every JSON field name works); append an IP to query it, e.g. `curl ipconfig.is/country/8.8.8.8` - `curl ipconfig.is/whois/8.8.8.8` - IP registration data via RDAP (range, CIDR, organisation, abuse contact, dates, registry) - `curl ipconfig.is/threat/8.8.8.8` - reputation: per-list DNS blocklist status (Spamhaus ZEN, DroneBL, blocklist.de, SpamCop, GBUdb, s5h.net, IPv4 and IPv6), Tor exits, abuse.ch botnet C2, VPN/hosting flags; `?fresh=1` re-checks - `curl ipconfig.is/headers` - echoes your HTTP request headers back as JSON - `curl -4 ipconfig.is/ports` (or `curl v4.ipconfig.is/ports`) - which common TCP ports are reachable on your own public IPv4 address; `?port=N` checks one port (with its banner); `?format=text` prints a table; a page on another website cannot start it (it scans whoever calls it) - `curl "ipconfig.is/dns?name=github.com&type=MX"` - DNS lookup via validating resolvers: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SOA, CAA, PTR (pass an IP), SRV, HTTPS, SVCB, DS, DNSKEY, CDS, CDNSKEY, TLSA, SSHFP, NAPTR, DNAME; DNSSEC status (secure/insecure/bogus with the reason); `&short=1` for dig +short output - `curl "ipconfig.is/propagation?name=github.com&type=A"` - the same record from 12 public resolvers (incl. China and Russia) and from every authoritative nameserver of the zone, with SOA serials - `curl "ipconfig.is/tls?host=github.com"` - TLS certificate: validity, chain (incl. missing intermediates), CRL revocation, accepted TLS versions, key, SHA-256 fingerprint; `host:port` for other services, STARTTLS on 25/587/143/110/21 - `curl "ipconfig.is/mail?domain=github.com"` - email authentication: SPF evaluated with the 10-lookup limit, DMARC on the organisational domain, DKIM (`&selector=` for yours), MX health with FCrDNS, MTA-STS, TLS-RPT, BIMI, with a grade - `curl "ipconfig.is/trace?url=https://github.com"` - follows the redirect chain (status, HTTP version, timings per hop) and grades the final security headers and cookies - `curl "ipconfig.is/audit?domain=github.com"` - domain security scorecard (A-F): TLS, HTTPS redirect and headers, email authentication, CAA, DNSSEC - `curl "ipconfig.is/whois?domain=github.com"` - domain registration via RDAP (or registry WHOIS for TLDs without RDAP): registrar, age, expiry, nameservers, status, DNSSEC A client-side subnet/CIDR calculator (IPv4 + IPv6: netmasks, wildcards, ranges, address types, reverse zones) is in the Tools section of the website. Every tool result on the site has a shareable link. JSON fields include: ip, city, district, region, region_code, country_name, country_code, registered_country_code, continent, latitude, longitude, accuracy_radius (km), timezone, offset, currency, org, asn, asn_number, network, is_mobile, is_vpn (VPN/proxy/Tor), is_tor, is_hosting, ptr_record. Unknown values are null. Errors are JSON `{"error", "code"}` (text on plain-text endpoints). Rate limit: 40 requests per 20 seconds per IP (per /64 for IPv6); responses carry RateLimit-* headers and a 429 carries Retry-After. ## Guides - [What is an IP address?](https://ipconfig.is/what-is-an-ip-address): plain-English explanation of public vs private IPs and what an IP reveals. - [IPv4 vs IPv6](https://ipconfig.is/ipv4-vs-ipv6): address formats, why IPv6 exists, and how to tell which you are using. - [How to hide your IP address](https://ipconfig.is/how-to-hide-your-ip): VPNs, Tor, proxies, mobile data and Wi-Fi compared. - [Frequently asked questions](https://ipconfig.is/faq): IP geolocation accuracy, blocklists, VPNs, IPv4 vs IPv6, and the API.
